Athletics
The Board of Education recognizes the value of interscholastic athletics to our school - community. The primary purpose of the athletic program is to enhance the comprehensive educational experience of students. Lawton places top priority on the values of good sportsmanship, academic scholarship, scope of programs, and safety of participants.
The athletic programs strive to provide students the opportunity to exercise and test their athletic abilities in a context greater and more varied than that which can be offered by the classroom alone. Game activities and practice sessions should provide many opportunities to teach the positive values of educational athletics.
Below are the athletic programs that Lawton Community Schools offers to students:

The Blue Devil Mascot
From time to time, we receive a question regarding our use of the Blue Devil mascot. This explanation is based on the premise that the Lawton Blue Devil mascot was chosen for the same reasons it was selected by Duke University in the 1920's. A review of the website GoDuke.com tells the story of "les Diables Bleus" which translates to Blue Devils. Les Diables Bleus were a group of WWI French soldiers who were well known for their skill, knowledge and courage. Their distinctive uniform included a flowing blue cape and beret. The purpose for sharing this information is to clarify that the history of this mascot has a military origin as opposed to religious. We can all agree that skill, knowledge and courage are characteristics we desire in our students and athletes.
